Grants Managers Network: Understanding Your Grantees’ Financial Health
November 1, 2016 @ 2:00 am - 3:00 pm
Understanding the financial health of grantees is a critical part of the grants management process. Nonprofit organizations face increasing financial challenges in today’s operating environment and in order to make sound funding decisions, grantmakers must have a firm grasp of the story told by the numbers. Focusing on effective approaches to reading and interpreting financial statements, this course will equip participants to understand their grantees’ financial reality, with concepts and tools applicable to grantees across a range of mission areas and business models.
The webinar will address the following topics:
- What audited financial statements tell us about a grantee’s financial health over time
- Key indicators that help gauge financial viability, including:
o Liquid Unrestricted Net Assets
o Months of cash on hand
o Operating results
o Resource allocations among functions
- How to calculate key financial metrics using an Excel-based “Nonprofit Financial Health Analysis” tool
